Umbreon VMAX (Alternate Art)
Evolving Skies · 215/203 · Special Illustration Rare
Card overview
The alternate-art "Moonbreon" — Umbreon VMAX from Evolving Skies, depicting Umbreon perched on a rooftop under a full moon. Widely regarded as one of the best-designed modern Pokémon cards.
Collector commentary
The Moonbreon is the closest thing the modern era has to a Base Set Charizard: a card whose demand transcends the usual set-collector audience. The art is the whole story here — the composition, the moon, the pose. Our honest read is that it is a blue-chip modern card, but "blue-chip modern" still means more volatile than vintage. It has already been bid up substantially, so we would not treat a PSA 10 as a value buy. If you want one, a clean raw or a PSA 9 is the pragmatic entry.

Investment outlook
FairThe defining chase card of the Sword & Shield era with unusually durable demand. Priced accordingly — upside exists but is no longer a secret.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is it called "Moonbreon"?+
The nickname comes from the artwork — Umbreon sitting beneath a large full moon. Collectors coined it and it stuck.
Is the Umbreon VMAX alt art a good investment?+
It is the strongest modern card by demand, but it trades at a premium. We treat it as a collectible grail first and an investment second, and we never recommend buying at the top of a hype cycle.
